The mission of the Disaster Animal Response
Team (DART) is to promote the safety and well-being of all animals
who are or may be adversely affected during a disaster and to
respond to the needs of those who provide emergency and supportive
care to animals during all phases of a disaster. This is accomplished
in 3 ways: 1) Preparedness, 2) Awareness, and 3) Response.
The DART web sites main purpose
is to keep the public educated about disaster preparedness
for their animal family members, and to keep the public informed
before, during, and after a disaster. It will also provide
a venue for all the various Florida DART chapters to network
with other members of the humane field while serving as a
source of information to local team members about upcoming
training opportunities and meetings. And while on our journey
to educate and prepare we hope to interest some of our other
2-legged beings into volunteering to strengthen and expand
DART teams throughout the state of Florida.

Just like children, the animals in our community will be depending on us more than ever, if a disaster occurs. They ask so little and give us so much so please don’t leave it up to chance. Prepare now, spread the word and try to donate a few hours per month by volunteering with your local DART team chapter or animal shelter. During a Florida disaster we will make every attempt to provide a status update as quickly as possible, but may be limited by the disaster in our area or the timeliness of information from
other areas.
If animals are in need of help either in a disaster or emergency please contact your local Humane Organization(s) or County Animal Control/Services agency. These organizations are here to help you and many animals in a variety of different situations and if appropriate they will contact DART for
further assistance.
